Former Dallas Cowboys tight end and new ESPN Monday Night Football analyst Jason Witten said Monday he believes former teammate Dez Bryant will sign with the Green Bay Packers.
Speaking on The Adam Schefter Podcast (h/t Zach Kruse of USA Today), Witten offered his prediction: "I think he's going to end up going to the Green Bay Packers. I think that's a great spot for him. Aaron Rodgers, he throws that back-shoulder throw so well, and Dez [can have] great chemistry with a good quarterback that can put the ball wherever he wants."
The Cowboys released Bryant in April after eight years with the team.
Bryant has struggled in recent seasons, with no 1,000-yard receiving campaigns since 2014.
The 29-year-old missed time due to injury in both 2015 and 2016 before finishing 2017 with 69 catches for 838 yards and six touchdowns as the No. 1 option for quarterback DakPrescott in the passing game.
Although Bryant has dropped off in comparison to a three-year stretch from 2012 to 2014 that saw him average 1,312 yards and 13.7 touchdowns per season, Witten thinks the Cowboys' all-time leader in touchdown catches still has plenty left in the tank:
"I still think Dez can still high-point the football as good as any other wide receiver in the National Football League. You partner him up with Jimmy Graham and Aaron Rodgers, and I think that offense can put up a lot of points. ... I think it's a win-win for the Packers."
Bryant would be a logical fit in Green Bay since the Packers released veteran wideout Jordy Nelson this offseason. That left a starting outside spot open across from Davante Adams, with Randall Cobb occupying the slot.
Rodgers has never had any issues spreading the ball around, and even though the Packers are stacked offensively, Bryant could add to the high-volume attack.
