Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews was reportedly taken to the emergency room after taking a line drive to the face while pitching in a charity softball game.
Matthews nearly got his glove up to protect his face, but walked off the field immediately in apparent pain:
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that “the belief” is that Matthews suffered a broken nose and nothing more – which would be a major relief.
WBAY’s Dave Schroeder reported that Matthews was “doing fine” – meaning the ER visit was likely just precautionary:
Packers wide receiver Devante Adams later took an opportunity to tell the crowd that “Clay is alright,” and that the injury is just “a little boo-boo.” That might be an understatement, but it appears Matthews has avoided any serious damage.
When the game resumed, a screen had been brought out for the pitchers to pitch behind:
This story will be update when more information on Matthews’ condition is known.
