Kings rookie forward Marvin Bagley will have an MRI Monday after a "tweak" of his right groin and hip flexor during Saturday's 71-63 summer league loss to the Phoenix Suns at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
Bagley, the second-overall pick in last month's NBA draft, is out for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers and doubtful for Tuesday against Memphis.
"It's just a tweak," Bagley said. "On the last play, the last dunk I had, I came down and pushed off, but nothing serious, I'll be fine. Getting back on defense is when I felt something."
Bagley finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
Even though Bagley doesn't believe his injury is serious, the Kings will be cautious with him.
"I think it's going to be a little bit uncomfortable for him to sit out and look at the next game, or however games he's out, because he's such a fighter and such a competitor," said Kings summer league coach Larry Lewis. "I know he wants to be out there playing."
Bagley will now have to learn by watching the rest of his teammates for at least one game and likely two. The Kings will play at least four more summer league games.
Lewis said there is still a lot that can be done with Bagley, even though he will be out.
"It's going to be tough for him but it's always good to sit out and see what it looks like from the outside in," Lewis said. "We'll still go over video with him and talk to him."
Bagley's injury came against Phoenix, which includes the first pick in the draft and his former high school teammate, Deandre Ayton.
Ayton finished with a game highs of 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Bagley's showing was a bounce-back performance from a bad outing Thursday in the finale of the California Classic in Sacramento.
Bagley had one point, three rebounds and missed both of his field goals in a loss to Miami.
Lewis liked how Bagley put the Miami game behind him.
"Each time he gets out on the court, it's an opportunity to apply what you've learned from the last game," Lewis said. "I think he's willing and able to do that and that's going to really show in the upcoming months. I think he's a fast learner."
