UCF Knights cornerback Aaron Robinson was stretchered off the field after being injured in a collision on the team's season-opening kickoff Thursday against the host Connecticut Huskies.
The ESPNU broadcast reported (h/t The Athletic's Chris Vannini) that Robinson was able to move his legs. He gave the crowd a thumbs-up on his way off the field, via UFC Football:
There was no immediate word on the nature and severity of the injury.
Robinson is a redshirt sophomore and was making his UCF debut. A 3-star recruit out of high school, according to 247Sports, he started his college career at Alabama. He recorded five total tackles and one tackle for loss in limited action as a freshman for the Crimson Tide.
The Florida native had to sit out the 2017 season as a result of the transfer.
In April, the NCAA made a significant rule change to kickoffs in an effort to promote touchbacks and reduce injuries. Players can now signal for a fair catch on any kickoff inside the 25-yard line and have it called a touchback, which results in a spot at the 25.
The latest rule change comes six years after the NCAA moved kickoffs from the 30-yard line to the 35 and moved touchbacks from the 20-yard line to the 25.
