Less than a week after the NFL season concluded, an entirely new professional league is set to kickoff this evening. The Alliance of American Football, an eight-team league partnered with the NFL, debuts tonight with a pair of primetime games.
The Orlando Apollos will host the Atlanta Legends, while the San Diego Fleet will travel to Texas to play the San Antonio Commanders; both games begin at 8 PM, on CBS. The coverage will be regionally based, as are the team rosters. The AAF seeks to allocate players to the geographic areas in which they’re best known. And so it’s far from surprising that, of the eight Seminoles in the Alliance, seven play for Orlando (which is coached by Steve Spurrier— how fun is that?), while the other plays for Atlanta.
Here are the ’Noles currently on AAF rosters:
- RB Ryan Green, Orlando Apollos
- WR Marvin Bracy-Williams, Orlando Apollos
- OG Tre Jackson, Orlando Apollos
- DE Giorgio Newberry, Orlando Apollos
- CB Marquez White, Orlando Apollos
- LB Reggie Northrup, Orlando Apollos
- LB Jacob Pugh, Orlando Apollos
- LB Ro’Derrick Hoskins, Atlanta Legends
In addition to Orlando, Atlanta, San Diego, and San Antonio, the other teams in the Alliance are the Arizona Hotshots, Salt Lake Stallions, Birmingham Iron, and Memphis Express.
The AAF will strive to bridge the gap between the NFL and college seasons by speeding up games. Kickoffs are gone altogether, onside-kick attempts don’t involve a kick at all, two-point conversion attempts are required after all touchdowns in lieu of booting an extra point, and replays are limited to a pair of coach challenges per team.
