Kentucky Wildcats Basketball: PJ Washington and his dad detail injury - A Sea Of Blue

We’re starting to get more clarity on the injury PJ Washington is dealing with.

Prior to the Kentucky Wildcats taking on the Wofford Terriers, CBS sideline reporter Jamie Erdahl explained the injury as told by PJ himself:

The ‘pop’ part is particularly concerning, especially since Washington said the pain became nearly unbearable, calling it a 10 out of a 10 in terms of how much pain he was in.

For what it’s worth, Reid Travis also said he heard a pop in his knee when he sprained it against Missouri. He would go on to miss the next five games, though he later revealed he could have played against Florida on Senior Day, but UK opted to play it safe.

On Friday, PJ’s father, Paul Washington, explained the situation further to Kyle Tucker of The Athletic. Some have wondered if PJ and/or his family are pushing for him to sit out to prevent a worse injury and drastically affect his NBA Draft stock.

Paul shot that notion down

“PJ wants to play,” he said. “My job is to make sure he’s 100 percent healed first. Thank God it’s nothing broke and there’s no surgery needed. We opted to go with a cast because it won’t allow him to move it and is supposed to help him heal quicker. So it’s just about pain tolerance at this point.

“He came back to win a national championship, so I think not playing hurts more than the foot.”

Be sure to real Tucker’s full interview.

If Kentucky wins today, they’ll get a week off until they would play next Friday, so PJ wold have gotten two weeks to recover from his injury.
