The NBA world went ballistic when a three-team trade between the Washington Wizards, Phoenix Suns, and Memphis Grizzlies fell through on Friday, Dec. 14.
The trade would have sent Trevor Ariza to Washington, Kelly Oubre to Memphis, and Austin Rivers, Wayne Selden, a Brooks, and two second-round picks to Phoenix.
What is “a Brooks,” you may question?
Well, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski who first reported the deal, Phoenix believed they were going to receive promising forward Dillon Brooks from Memphis, but the Grizzlies thought they were giving up veteran guard MarShon Brooks. The mixup sent the trade back to the drawing board and minutes after it was leaked, Wojnarowski reported that the trade was off.
Deal's suddenly in peril. Memphis and Phoenix didn't communicate directly on trade, using Washington as a conduit in coordinating the 3-team deal, sources tell @ZachLowe_NBA and me. Grizzlies believe they were trading MarShon, but somehow Suns believed it was Dillon.
